Thousands of members of the Johane Masowe Apostolic sect gathered on Seke Road on Sunday for a national cleansing and prayer ceremony aimed at addressing the high number of serious accidents along the major highway.

The event, organized by the group "Mapostori For ED," brought a section of the busy road to a temporary standstill as worshippers prayed for divine intervention.

Mass Prayer for Divine Intervention

The ceremony was led by Prophet Madzibaba Mozi, who was joined by other senior leaders of the sect. Dressed in traditional white robes, the large crowd of congregants sang and prayed for an end to the tragic incidents that have made the route a cause for national concern. The gathering took place on the stretch of road between Chinhamo Service Station and Zororo Memorial Park.

Addressing the attendees, Prophet Mozi highlighted the purpose of the gathering, stating:

“This road has claimed too many lives. We are asking for God’s hand to protect drivers, passengers, and all who use it.”

To facilitate the event, one city-bound lane of Seke Road was officially closed for three hours, from 11 AM to 2 PM. Police and municipal officers were present to manage the flow of traffic, directing vehicles onto the Chitungwiza-bound lane, which was temporarily converted to handle two-way traffic.

Ceremony Follows Recent Tragedies

The call for a national prayer ceremony was prompted by a series of serious accidents on Seke Road in recent weeks.

In late July, a devastating collision occurred between a haulage truck and a commuter omnibus near the Manyame River Bridge, resulting in multiple fatalities and injuries. Just a week later, another major incident took place near Chinhamo Bridge when a passenger vehicle experienced a mechanical failure, veered off the road, and caused numerous serious injuries.

These back-to-back events, along with other crashes, galvanized the community to seek spiritual intervention for the safety of all road users.

A Peaceful Call for Safer Roads

Participants at the ceremony stated they were praying not only for Seke Road but for improved road safety across Zimbabwe. The event proceeded peacefully under the supervision of traffic enforcement agents who managed the temporary road diversions.

The public gathering has drawn national attention, with many hoping that the combination of community faith and a renewed focus on road safety will help prevent future tragedies on one of the country's busiest transportation corridors.
