Harare, Zimbabwe – Zimdancehall artist and social media influencer Millicent Chimonyo, widely known as Malloti, has been granted bail following her court appearance on charges of allegedly insulting controversial clergyman Prophet Passion Java with obscenities.
The 26-year-old artist appeared before Harare Magistrate Tapiwa Kuhudzai.
As part of her bail conditions, she has been ordered to report once every fortnight to the CID Commercial Crimes Division (CCD). Furthermore, she is strictly prohibited from interfering with any witnesses until the matter is finalized.
The State alleges that she has targeted music promoters such as DJ Inno, Nash TV, and Tinashe Mutarisi, in addition to Prophet Passion Java and several others.
The specific charge against her stems from an incident on May 14, when prosecutors allege that Malloti recorded and posted a video on Facebook. In this video, she is accused of uttering words that were intended to demean Prophet Passion Java.
The matter will continue to proceed through the court system, with Malloti now out on bail.
