The Zimbabwe Republic Police has officially confirmed the grim occurrence and provided pertinent details regarding the tragic collision.

According to the police statement disseminated on their official X account (formerly Twitter), the fatal accident transpired on January 28th, 2024, at approximately 1445 hours at the 102-kilometre mark along the Chivhu-Nyazura road. The collision involved a Toyota Vitz car, transporting five passengers, which collided head-on with an AVM bus carrying 24 passengers, amplifying the scale and impact of the calamity.

Regrettably, six individuals succumbed to the grievous collision, while five others sustained injuries necessitating medical attention. 

The deceased individuals have been conveyed to the Murambinda Mission Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examinations, as the injured victims are currently receiving medical care at the same healthcare facility.

Tragic Collision Claims Six Lives in Heart-Wrenching Road Acciden

In a somber revelation, the police have disclosed the names of a few victims who were tragically claimed by the calamitous collision. Dzingai Mutsaru, a 44-year-old male from Muguta Village, Nyashanu, Buhera; Eliah Makaza, a 64-year-old male from Rusere Village, Buhera; and Richard Kanongovere, a 33-year-old male from Kanongovere Village, Murambinda, are amongst the identified victims. However, three other individuals who fell victim to the devastating collision await identification by their respective next of kin.

Moreover, on the same day, another tragic incident unfolded along the Dombo-Nyanga road, where a Toyota Camry, transporting four passengers, careened off the road and collided with a tree at the six-kilometre mark. This distressing event resulted in the loss of one life, while four individuals sustained injuries, further compounding the toll of road accidents on this fateful day.

The series of heart-wrenching accidents serves as a poignant reminder of the profound repercussions of road safety and the imperative need for heightened vigilance and adherence to traffic regulations to avert such devastating outcomes in the future.
