After the unexpected departure of Nelson Chamisa from the leadership of the Citizen’s Coalition for Change (CCC), a succession dispute has unfolded, leading to the emergence of an unexpected successor to lead the party.
In a surprising turn of events, Promise Mkwananzi, who previously served as the CCC spokesperson during Nelson Chamisa's tenure, has taken the initiative to appoint himself as the acting president and spokesperson of the party.
Mkwananzi has officially communicated this decision to the Speaker of Parliament, asserting that he has been designated as Chamisa's successor by all key organs of the CCC. Consequently, he has also requested that all formal communications be directed to him, emphasizing his newfound role within the party.
This development has surfaced amidst a backdrop of conflicting claims within the CCC, as Sengezo Tshabangu, the interim Secretary General of a rival faction, has planned to unveil a different successor to Nelson Chamisa on the following Tuesday.
Mkwananzi's actions and assertion of leadership have set the stage for a potential power struggle within the party, amplifying the uncertainty surrounding its future trajectory.
In response to Tshabangu's contrary declarations, Mkwananzi took to social media to dismiss assertions that the CCC had reverted to a previous leadership elected in 2019, stating that the party was in fact established on January 24, 2022, refuting claims dating back to 2019.
