Karenyi Kore, Member of Parliament for Chikanga and one of the three vice presidents, has emerged as the new leader of the Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) in parliament following Nelson Chamisa's recent departure from the political party.
According to a statement released by the party, the leadership structure of the CCC in parliament will revert to the officials elected at the MDC Alliance congress in Gweru in May 2019. This decision was reached after the party's resolution last year to relinquish the MDC Alliance name and establish the CCC.
Karenyi Kore's transition to the leadership role in parliament comes in the wake of the recall of Amos Chibaya, initially chosen by Chamisa, by self-styled CCC interim secretary general Sengezo Tshabangu. A court ruling also barred Chibaya from participating in the upcoming by-elections scheduled for February 3.
In response to President Chamisa's resignation, the CCC leadership, elected at the Gweru congress, held an urgent meeting to address the implications of his statement. They emphasized that Chamisa's leadership, elected unopposed in May 2019, was never in dispute until his resignation.

The party aims to align with Tshabangu's stated goal of reinstating constitutionalism and collaborative decision-making, seeking his support in returning to the elected officials.
Following Chamisa's exit, several CCC Members of Parliament have taken to social media to express their loyalty and solidarity with him. While resignations have not been disclosed, there is mounting pressure for MPs to stand apart from the party amid these recent developments.
