Zimbabwean cricket legend Heath Streak has spoken out after rumours circulated on social media claiming that he had passed away.
The 49-year-old former cricketer expressed his disappointment and frustration over the false reports, stating that he is alive and well.
Streak addressed the issue in an interview with Indian outlet Mid-Day, where he expressed his dismay at the spread of unverified information in the age of social media.
In response to the rumors, Streak stated,
“It is a total rumor and a lie. I’m alive and well… I am very upset to learn that something as big as someone apparently passing can be spread unverified, especially in our day and age of social media.”
Karen Streak, the mother of the former Zimbabwean international cricket all-rounder, also refuted the false news that has been circulating about her son’s supposed death.

She said these reports are entirely unfounded.
Former Teammate Henry Olonga’s Premature Announcement:
The rumours of Streak’s death began when one of his former teammates, Henry Olonga, took to social media to pay tribute to him. Olonga’s tweet stated,“Sad news coming through that Heath Streak has crossed to the other side. RIP [Zimbabwe cricket] legend. The greatest all-rounder we produced. It was a pleasure playing with you. See you on the other side when my bowling spell comes to an end.”
However, Olonga later retracted his claims and confirmed that Streak is indeed alive. In a follow-up tweet, Olonga clarified,
“I can confirm that rumors of the demise of Heath Streak have been greatly exaggerated. I just heard from him. The third umpire has called him back. He is very much alive, folks.”
