Following last night’s arrest of Mary Chiwenga by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC), it has emerged that the arrest was allegedly ordered by her estranged husband, Vice President Constantino Chiwenga.
A furious Vice President Constantino Chiwenga ordered her arrest following a stormy family meeting on Friday. The meeting was meant to discuss the way forward following the collapse of the couple’s eight-year marriage.
The Vice President Chiwenga filed for divorce and some reports say there are allegations of infidelity and poisoning. The 63-year-old Chiwenga was reportedly upset by Mary’s demand that he should write a will at a time when he was battling for his life and accused her of being more concerned about material things rather than his welfare.

She was very hostile, she even described Chiwenga’s inadequacies in bed in shocking detail.
Furious at the revelations, the Vice President is reported to have ordered her arrest. Chiwenga who has already filed for divorce and is currently working on evicting Mary from the couple’s sumptuous Borrowdale mansion is reported to have grabbed the couple’s three children. The children aged eight, seven and five were taken into Chiwenga’s custody after Mary was arrested. Mary’s two other children from her past relationships were shipped off to her mother’s, Helga Mubaiwa.
During the meeting, Chiwenga also accused Mary of trying to force him to Mary her at the time that when he was battling for his life from suspected poisoning. Mary has since been charged with misrepresentation for allegedly misrepresenting to the acting chief magistrate Munamato Mutevedzi that Chiwenga wanted a court officer to come and solemnize the marriage. They were reported to have been married in highly secretive function in June.
Mary was also arrested on charges of fraud and money laundering after allegedly purchased a house in Pretoria and two luxurious Range Rover SUVs worth millions of rand. Mary on her side insists that she did so because she wanted to protect the couple’s privacy, which could not be guaranteed when booking into hotels.
Mary is currently detained at Rhodesville Police Station in Harare and is expected to appear in court on Monday.
