In the latest revelation on the former late President Robert Mugabe’s burial saga, Chiefs from Mugabe’s rural home, Zvimba, allegedly marked the place Mugabe’s mausoleum will be built without the former First Lady’s consent who was pushing to have her late husband to buried in Zvimba.
The Newsday reports that apart from the conflict between the Mugabe family and the government over the former leader’s burial place, there has also been contention within the Mugabe family over his burial place.
”The Chiefs, led by Chief Zvimba, had to rein in on Grace because she insisted that the former President wanted to be buried in Zvimba, The decision only came after a bold stance and threats from the traditional leaders to abandon the funeral wake if the former First Lady did not give in,” highly placed source in the government told the NewsDay.
The source said that as the feud worsened, chiefs went to the Heroes Acre and marked the place where a special mausoleum will be built for Mugabe, living a sour taste in Grace’s mouth.
Speaking on behalf of chiefs, Headman Dununu, born Raphael Zvikaramba, unwittingly confirmed the feuds and how the matter was settled.
”We gathered and discussed it, some saying he has to be buried at the National Heroes Acre and others saying he should be buried at his home. The responsible people came to an agreement that it was right for him to be buried at the Heroes Acre,” he said.
However, Dununu refuted reports that Mugabe’s body was being used as a ransom to negotiate with the government for the safe return of his exiled G40 allies.
”No, that is absolute nonsense! We do not play around with a dead man, no! But we have to collect the information from both angles; the wife (Grace)had some information an the other guys also, so we had to put the information together and discuss among ourselves and consider the common denominator given the diverse versions concerning his burial place,” Dununu said.
