Hundreds of mourners gathered at former late President Robert Mugabe’s rural home in Zvimba were deeply disappointed yesterday after the sudden change in the funeral programme under unclear circumstances.
The former Zanu PF leader’s body was scheduled to lie in state at his rural home yesterday, to allow his Kinsmen to pay their last respects. Unfortunately for the crowd that had gathered up in anticipation for the body’s arrival, the programme was postponed to today.
According to the NewsDay the programme was cancelled at the last hour.
Family spokesperson Leo Mugabe could not furnish Journalists at the Mugabe’s rural home why the programme had been cancelled.
”I have not been told of the reasons why there has been a change of programme, but the body will now lie in state here tomorrow (today).
”We are also making plans to ensure that it is not flown, but that it comes by road so that people along in the highway from Norton can be able to bid him farewell,” he said.
