Assistant Secretary for U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of African Affairs Tibor Nagy wrote on social media:

We condemn the excessive force the police used today against Zimbabweans who were seeking to demonstrate peacefully. We call on Zimbabwe’s security forces to respect human rights and to exercise restraint. #RespecttheConstitution #HumanRights.

The actions of the police were also condemned by the United Kingdom and the European Union who called on the authorities to exercise restraint as well.

One 51-year-old woman had to undergo brain surgery following life-threatening injuries she suffered after being brutally assaulted by the police while seating in the road.
