‘Gogo’ Brutally Assaulted By ZRP Officers Now Stable After Brain Surgery

In a welcome development, a 51-year-old woman who was brutally assaulted by the police on Friday during the banned August 16 protests is reported to be stable after undergoing surgery.

The woman was part of the group which was brutally assaulted while seating peacefully at the intersection of Jason Moyo and Sam Nujoma Streets. The woman collapsed in the road after being severely assaulted by baton and whip yielding anti-riot police officers.

Initially, some suspected that she had died but she later received treatment from the Zimbabwe Red Cross Society in a makeshift clinic before being transported to the hospital.

At the hospital, CT scans showed that she was suffering from life-threatening bleeding in the brain and required urgent surgery.

In an update, Dewa Mavhinga, the director of Human Rights Watch, Southern Africa said,

Some good news in an update from Doctors: Surgery successfully is done. The patient is stable and doing well.

Well, wishers have expressed interest in starting a Gofundme campaign to raise money for the woman’s needs.
