Anglophone Crisis – Some South West Chiefs and Parents Have Added A New Item On The Agenda

It is not over yet in the South West Region of the Country as regards reopening of schools. The debate of whether schools should resume or not still raises more questions than answers.

Groups of parents and Chiefs of the South West region have been having meeting in that part of the country deliberating on what they deem will be good for the entire community.

One of such meeting was the one recently held in the Kupe Muanenguba earlier this week in which several Chiefs and parents came to a conclusion that schools can only resume in the locality if the Government provides them with good roads.

They say that their Villages have been suffering from under development for decades and that the series of calls by the government for schools to resume will continue to fall on deaf ears if their requests are not granted.
Anglophone Crisis – Some South West Chiefs and Parents Have Added A New Item On The Agenda
“we are assuring the government that our children will go back to school provided good roads are constructed in our region to enable us sell our produce. This will make us send our children to school. We will not send a child to school when the money is not there whereas produce from our farms are lying and rotting” says a grumbling parent.

Meanwhile during the same meeting in Kupe Muanenguba, some parents called on the elites to make sure that the 2017/2018 academic year commences hitch free in the two English Speaking Regions of the Country.

“This is the time we have to put concrete strategies in place so as to have an effective go back to school. Children have suffered for the past one year or so and we should not allow them pass through this nightmare the second time” appeals another parent. “it is a humble appeal to all the elites and the forces that be to go back to their villages and sensitize their people. We should avoid to create that gap that exist between the children of poor villagers and those of richer ones” he adds.

The debate is far from reaching an agreeable conclusion as opposite parties seem to remain at daggers drawn. Some critics say only September will tell.
