Breaking News - Consortium in Chaos, Tassang Stages Ban of Tapang, Mark Bareta

Late last evening from Abuja, Nigeria, Tassang Wilfred and Barrister Eyambe, self-exiled leaders of the Consortium, including a handful of others who all claimed certain stakes as members of the Consortium, denounced and declared Mark Bareta and Tapang Ivo, Persona non grata in the Consortium – effectively, wanting all to know, the duo would henceforth have nothing to do with the organisation.

The denouncement which came by way of a video footage alleges that Tapang and Bareta have all along been all about destroying the Southern Cameroons struggle by way of their interim leadership. This insinuation, despite the fact that both Tassang and the duo of Tapang and Bareta have issued out join communiques in the past!

“We have resolved unanimously that these two gentlemen are no longer part of the Consortium.” Eyambe is heard stating in the video clip. “They cease to be members of this organization henceforth” – He added.

“We should have started (this video) by giving you our apologies.” Tassang cuts in, adding; “In a struggle like this one, there are rooms for errors, and when errors are made we have the duty to correct them.” Making references to Tapang and Bareta, Tassang said, “These are two young people that we thought had this struggle at heart, but we have over the months, discovered what they really care about is power and absolute power to destroy. We have tried our best to accommodate them and have failed woefully.” Tassang averred.

He continued; “Like you have been witnesses in Mark Bara’s videos or Facebook live communications, they have over the months been struggling to expose the leadership of this struggle, to destroy the struggle, and yesterday (April 5) he did it. But we are not perturbed. Even as he has exposed that we are in Nigeria. What he has done at the end is exposed himself.” Tassang said.

In the ‘yesterday’ video clip that Tassang refers to, Bareta, on a Facebook live cast Wednesday April 5th, averred his audience of details about ongoing schisms within the Consortium and many other issues with which he and Tapang have disagreed over with Tassang and others.

Bareta states for example, that Tassang, since moving to Nigeria has carried out several actions/decisions without consulting them as members of the team. He said that Tassang never consulted with him and Tapang when he took the decision to change the Consortium stance from Federalism to Independence.

Not that he necessarily thinks it was a wrong choice, but that as a team, they were supposed to have been brought to the table before the announcement was made. Bareta also cited in the

Facebook broadcast, the fact that before Tassang went ahead to announce the suspension of their interim leadership, that they were never consulted, “we read it like everyone else did on Facebook,” he said.

In the Tassang video clip in which they all denounce Tapang and Bareta, turn-by- turn, in what comes across rather as a well-planned craft presentation, each person tries his utmost best to portray the decision as a unanimous one. “We have unanimously taken this decision also recognizing the fact that individuals were not accepted in the leadership of the consortium. We, because of the situation that was at hand unanimously accepted to give the interim leadership… and today we have exceptionally; they are no longer members of the consortium.” Che Anye Kevin, who introduced himself as President of the Southern Cameroons Confederation of Trade Unions said at his turn. Others took turns to make same declarations.

At press time, we were unable to speak to both Tapang and Bareta. But we recall that since taking refuge in Nigeria, it has always been the goal of Tassang and Co. to retain undivided leadership of the Consortium from Tapang and Bareta. In February for instance, just arriving Nigeria where he seeks refugee status, Tassang and Co. signed a communique to the effect that they were relinquishing the duo from their interim positions as leaders of the Consortium, a decision which was greeted with much criticism from the public. It long marked the very beginning of the destabilization and factionalization that is now characteristic of the Consortium.

The present decision to castigate Tapang and Bareta and “ban” them from the group, Tassang said, was motivated by the live Facebook broadcast in which Bareta exposed the fact Tassang and Co. are all hiding out in Nigeria. Tassang, feels like exposing their whereabouts poses a danger to their security. However, it is doubtful whether this is the main reason behind the decision they took in banning the boys, considering that it’s certainly no longer a matter of secret that Tassang and Co. left Cameroon for Nigeria.
