Mhepo News Reporter | Mhepo - Breaking News Zimbabwe
Prophet Evidence Chari, a figure of immense public interest, has built a ministry on bold claims of miraculous power. Yet, a timeline of his public life reveals a stark contrast between his early pronouncements as a restorer of broken marriages and the recent, dramatic collapse of his own union, which ended amidst serious allegations and public disputes.

The Anointing of a 'Marriage Mender'
Back in 2013, a 23-year-old Prophet Evidence Chari, then a newlywed himself, made bold claims about his spiritual abilities. In an interview with Nehanda Radio, he declared that God had given him a special anointing to mend broken marriages.
"I have an anointing that God has given me, I specialise on instant miracles, and one of the areas that God uses me mightily is that on mending marriages," he stated at the time. "Through the grace of God that is upon my life I can pray for someone whether a woman or man who could have been left by his/her spouse and instantly God would restore that marriage."
He described a process where, after his prayers, estranged spouses would immediately begin sending "phone calls and text messages...asking for reconciliation."
A Pattern of Public Conflict
Years later, Chari's public persona became increasingly embroiled in conflict. In January 2024, his "Record Breaking Friday" service descended into chaos when another religious figure, Prophetess Hadassah, disrupted the event to demand the return of her vehicle.
Pointing at the Prophet, she exclaimed, "Prophet, what I want is my car only. Why did you block me; is that your character? You are not ashamed to stand in front of this congregation to preach when you are a crook?" The incident, captured on video, reportedly ended with Chari's bouncers ushering him into a getaway vehicle.
Following the publication of the story by H-Metro, Prophet Chari allegedly visited their newsroom, threatening to hack their website and "deal with the writer." During the initial confrontation at his church, Prophetess Hadassah also publicly accused Chari of being a "wife beater," a serious allegation that foreshadowed future revelations about his domestic life.
The Unraveling of a Union
As recently as September 2024, Prophet Chari presented an image of marital bliss. In a public post celebrating his 12th anniversary with his wife, Anesu, he wrote, "Twelve years down the line i am still crazy for you... I am not the best bolt nut but you’re the right spanner. Thank you for tightening me and congratulations to us. Happy anniversary Queen."
This public image was shattered in November 2025 when Anesu Mwarianesu announced their divorce. She revealed they had been separated for over a year and cited "issues threatening my safety" as the reason. "While marriage is often described as a lifelong commitment," she wrote, "there are times when separation is the healthier path to protect life, mental health, and the well-being of the children." Prophet Chari subsequently issued a statement admitting that his actions and shortcomings caused pain and instability in their home.
Mhepo Commentary: The Irony of a Fallen Brand
The saga of Prophet Evidence Chari serves as a potent cautionary tale about the perils of building a public ministry on claims of personal perfection and miraculous intervention. The stark irony of the self-proclaimed "marriage mender" whose own union collapses under allegations of safety threats is impossible to ignore. His journey from a confident 23-year-old prophet to a man embroiled in public brawls, legal threats, and a deeply fractured marriage highlights the immense pressure and scrutiny faced by modern religious leaders. While projecting an image of divine favour through anniversary posts and luxury cars, the reality, as revealed by his estranged wife, was far more troubled. This unraveling is not just a personal failure but a deconstruction of a brand, leaving followers to grapple with the profound disconnect between the miracles promised from the pulpit and the chaos unfolding behind the curtain.
