A domestic firestorm erupted in Sakubva over the weekend, leaving a heartbroken husband and two young children abandoned after a bitter dispute over a mobile phone.
Chiedza Kamusasa, a 27-year-old Mutare woman, reportedly fled her home on Saturday, leaving her six-year-old and one-year-old children behind. The trigger? Her husband, Joseph Rupiya, 39, confiscated her cellphone, suspecting she was deep in an illicit affair.

The couple's six-year relationship has reportedly been strained, a situation made worse by the fact that Joseph is yet to pay lobola to Chiedza’s family.
FATHER-IN-LAW FUELS THE FLAMES
Instead of finding an ally in his father-in-law, Joseph says the man is siding with his daughter.“Her father is angry and insists that he wants to see his daughter alive,” Joseph lamented. “Instead of sympathising or helping with the children, he appears to be supporting Chiedza’s decision. He is accusing me of failing to fulfill my obligations.”
"I CAN'T KEEP BEGGING HER TO STAY"
This isn't the first time the shadow of infidelity has fallen on their home. Joseph confessed that Chiedza had cheated in the past, but they had managed to reconcile. This time, however, feels final.“This time feels different, I can’t keep begging her to stay,” he said, the pain evident in his voice.
Sources close to the situation claim Chiedza has already left Mutare and is now in Harare.
