Harare, Zimbabwe – Brenda Zvinorova, the long-time partner and fiancée of former Zimbabwe Warriors football star Alois Bunjira, has tragically passed away.
Her death on Tuesday comes just three days after she sustained severe injuries in a horrific head-on car crash along the Rusape–Nyanga road.
The couple was reportedly in the advanced stages of planning their wedding, which was set for December of this year.
Brenda Zvinorova survived the crash but suffered critical injuries. She was initially rushed to Rusape General Hospital for emergency treatment before being transferred on the same day to Milton Park Medical Centre in Harare for more specialized care. Doctors placed her on life support, where she bravely fought for her life for three days before sadly succumbing to her injuries yesterday.
Harare businessman Andrew Rusike, who chairs the marathon's organizing committee, confirmed the depth of the couple's relationship and Brenda's involvement. He explained that she was not just Bunjira’s girlfriend but his fiancée, and that the couple had been living together in Westgate with firm plans to marry before the end of the year.
He further clarified that the trip to Nyanga was not for leisure but was work-related. The organizing team, including Brenda and Alois, was in the process of assessing the route to determine if the NetOne Albun Marathon could serve as an official qualifier for the prestigious Comrades Marathon in South Africa. A representative from the Comrades had joined them on the trip, and specialized equipment had been brought along to measure the race’s standards and viability.
Although the evaluation was initially scheduled for three days, the team had decided to cut it short to two days due to other commitments. Mr. Rusike stated that he was following behind Alois and Brenda in another vehicle on Saturday morning when the accident occurred, with the couple having already passed Rusape by around 9:30 a.m.
The passing of Brenda Zvinorova has sent shockwaves through the sporting and business communities, marking a tragic end to a promising life and shattering the future plans of a beloved couple.
