Fatal Crash Claims Life of Beloved Karate Champion
HARARE – Zimbabwe's martial arts community is in mourning following the untimely death of renowned karateka and fitness trainer Sensei Mugove “Mugo” Muhambi. He died in a fatal head-on collision along Borrowdale Road early Saturday morning, May 17, 2025.The crash occurred near St George’s College around 7:00 AM. Eyewitnesses reported that Sensei Muhambi's Honda Fit suddenly veered into the oncoming lane, colliding with a Toyota GD6. He died on the spot.
A Life of Discipline and Dedication
Sensei Muhambi came from a large family of athletes, including his late brother Elson Muhambi, a former professional boxer with Mau Mau Boxing. His passion for martial arts began in primary school, where he trained in the Seido Kan style under Shihan Misheck Chiwayo. He later transitioned to the intense, full-contact Kyokushin style, training under Shihan Tendayi Marange.![]() |
