Mabvuku MP Scott Sakupwanya has sparked conversation with his recent initiative – the establishment of a new football club in his constituency.
While the project itself has garnered praise for its potential to empower local youth, the chosen name, Scottland FC, has ignited debate on social media.
Taking to his X account (formerly Twitter), Mr. Sakupwanya announced the launch of the Division One soccer team, highlighting its purpose as a platform for young people to pursue their passion for football. He emphasized the club's role in promoting positive youth development, aiming to steer them away from negative influences and provide opportunities for meaningful employment.
"By providing our youth with the opportunity to pursue their passion for football, we are not only keeping them away from the dangers of drugs but also offering them meaningful employment," stated Mr. Sakupwanya. "Through this team, they now have a full-time job – playing football, honing their skills, and representing our Mabvuku community with pride.

- "@Chananuka477362:** As much as I respect you, my brother, nothing wrong about establishing a Division 1 football club... but please can you find another well-respectable & acceptable name than the so-called Scottland FC? Never allow yourself to personalise anything to do about people."
- "@Munhu_mutapa:** Pazita reTeam apo baba uuum madii kupa zita rine rurimi rwaAmai?? (This team, why did you give it a name in a foreign language?)"
