Harare Mayor Jacob Mafume has been ousted from the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) party, according to an announcement by Promise Mkwananzi.
Mafume's dismissal was a result of his association with Sengezo Tshabangu, the party's disputed secretary general. The decision came after Mafume revealed that a meeting led by Tshabangu in Bulawayo appointed interim presidents for the party, including Welshman Ncube, Tendai Biti, and Lynette Karenyi-Kore on a rotational basis.
Mafume, who took over as the party's national spokesperson in August 2023, explained that these appointments were temporary until a formal elective congress could be held to choose permanent leaders.

However, Mkwananzi, who still claims to be the CCC spokesperson, dismissed these appointments as invalid, hinting at internal conflicts within the party.
In a statement, Mkwananzi addressed the resignation of President Advocate Nelson Chamisa and emphasized the party's commitment to democratic transition in Zimbabwe. He highlighted the appointment of Senator Jameson Timba to oversee the party's internal transitional processes, emphasizing a shift towards a new culture of people-centered politics.
The CCC remains focused on achieving a New Great Zimbabwe under Chamisa's leadership, with Senator Timba leading the party's administrative bureau. The party deployees in Parliament have been urged to collaborate with the new leadership structure as they navigate through this transitional phase.
As the CCC faces internal challenges and restructuring, the future direction of the party under new leadership remains uncertain. Stay tuned for further developments as the party navigates through this period of transition.
