The arts and broadcasting industry mourns the recent passing of prominent figures, including veteran filmmaker Watson Chidzomba, ZBC producer Julius Chirume, and seasoned journalist Hector Murombedzi.
Watson Chidzomba, known for his contributions to the screen and former management role at Oliver Mtukudzi's Pakare Paye Arts Centre, passed away on Thursday at a private hospital in Norton. His son, Watson Chidzomba Junior, confirmed the news, attributing his father's demise to complications related to an ulcer.
Chidzomba Senior's legacy on screen included memorable roles in dramas and movies such as 'Zviri Mudendere,' alongside notable performances as a detective and revered paternal figures.
The sorrow in the industry deepened with the untimely passing of ZBC producer Julius Chirume, who succumbed to an unexpected death at Madokero Clinic. Chirume, who started as a sports intern at ZBC in 2009, later transitioned into a producer role within the Kidznet section of the TV, News, and Current Affairs department, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and creativity.
The recent period of mourning was further compounded by the loss of seasoned ZBC journalist Hector Murombedzi, who departed at Suburban Hospital in Harare. Murombedzi's accomplished career at ZBC spanned over two decades, beginning as a camera person in 1997 and culminating in his role as Mashonaland Central Province Bureau Chief before his passing. His enduring commitment to broadcasting and journalism has left a lasting impact on the industry.
As the industry grapples with these losses, mourners are gathering to pay their respects to the late Hector Murombedzi at House Number 5-27th Crescent, Warren Park 1, Harare, highlighting the profound impact of these individuals on the arts and broadcasting landscape.
