Among the victims were a pregnant mother, her husband, and four children, whose untimely demise has cast a pall of grief over their family and the community at large.

Unfolding Tragedy: The collision, detailed in The Herald, unfolded tragically as a pregnant mother, Loice Kapinga, and her husband, Silas Gomo, along with their four children, including young Tanyaradzwa and Angela, lost their lives in a head-on collision while travelling from Marymount in Rushinga to Chinhoyi. 

The profound loss has left the family reeling, with Edson Kapinga, the father-in-law, grappling with the profound sorrow of losing six beloved family members in a single moment.

Additional Lives Lost: The tragedy extended beyond the family unit, claiming the lives of Lovemore Chibanda from Murehwa and Tashinga Chitsike from Mt Darwin. Reacting to the incomprehensible loss, Badwell Chitsike, Tashinga’s father, expressed bewilderment at the circumstances that led to the fatal accident.

Amidst the wreckage, Promise Makopo (22), the driver of one of the Honda Fit vehicles, managed to escape the blazing car but succumbed to the severe burns he sustained on both legs. 

The collision, occurring at 2:30 a.m., involved a head-on collision between two Honda Fit vehicles, resulting in a devastating impact and the subsequent ignition of one of the vehicles, with three victims left unrecognizable due to the extreme burns.

Government Support and Aid for Grieving Families: In the wake of the calamity, Christopher Magomo, the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Mashonaland Central, visited the site of the accident to extend his condolences to the mourning families, emphasizing the gravity of the tragedy and expressing profound sympathy for the loss of nine lives.

As efforts continue to identify the victims who were burnt beyond recognition with the assistance of the police forensic team, the government has stepped forward to provide essential support to the bereaved families, offering assistance with funeral expenses and logistical support. 

Acting director of the Department of Civil Protection, Farai Hokonya, confirmed the government's commitment to providing coffins, transportation, foodstuffs, and aid with the burial process, extending a crucial lifeline to the grieving families during this challenging and distressing period.
