Mai TT Free After State Drops Fraud Charges

Mai TT is now a free woman after the State dropped fraud charges against the socialite and comedienne.

The State withdrew the charges after confirming that Mai TT, born Felistas Murata, had paid back the complainant’s money amounting to US$10,000.

The Case That Landed Her Behind Bars

Mai TT was thrown in jail in June 2023 for theft of trust property and defaulting on community service.

The theft of trust property case involves Mai TT hiring a Mercedes Benz in September 2020 from Liberty Kudakwashe Vazhura at Else Event Car Rental. Mai TT would pay US$770 every week under the lease agreement. However, Mai TT defaulted on the weekly payments and became elusive.

The comedienne then took a US$10,000 debt from loan shark Rachel Mhuka. She handed over the car to Mhuka as collateral without Vazhura knowing. Mai TT took the vehicle from Mhuka and gave her another hired Audi Q5. She again reclaimed the Audi and gave Mhuka an invalid passport as surety.

The loan shark found this out, and Mai TT gave her back the Audi Q5. The owner took the vehicle from Rachel Mhuka.

In 2021, Else Event Car Hire reported that Mai TT had stolen their hired car. This year, Mai TT was found guilty of theft of trusted property and sentenced to 12 months in prison, of which six were suspended on condition that she does not commit a similar offence in the next five years.

In 2015, Mai TT was convicted of assault and sentenced to community service. She had to serve 105 hours of community service but defaulted. The Court sentenced the socialite to an additional three months in prison for evading community service.
