Former Finance Minister Tendai Biti finds himself in the midst of a political storm following the release of a leaked audio tape that implicates him in the ongoing Citizen Coalition for Change (CCC) controversy.
In a phone conversation with an anonymous CCC member, Biti made shocking revelations about the opposition party's leadership, suggesting that CCC leader Nelson Chamisa had been "expelled."
The explosive audio leak, obtained by The Sources Media, captures Biti in a candid conversation. The call took place at 16:37, shortly after Sengezo Tshabangu appointed Biti as co-interim President, along with Welshman Ncube, after expelling Nelson Chamisa from the party.
During another call with a CCC supporter, Biti was addressed as "president." In the recording, he can be heard saying,
"Tell him that I'm going to tweet and say that I'm not the president of anything. So just tell him that I'm going to tweet just now."

Leaked Audio Exposes Tendai Biti's Role in Chamisa's Troubles |
Within just two minutes of the phone conversation, at 16:43 as promised, Biti took to X (formerly Twitter) to distance himself from the controversy, stating,
"I am not the President of any political party. I refuse to be drawn into this mess. May my privacy and dignity be respected."
On October 3, Sengezo Tshabangu sent a letter to the speaker of the National Assembly, Jacob Mudenda, recalling several legislators and senators, alleging that they were no longer CCC members. In response, the Chamisa-led CCC disavowed any connection to Tshabangu.
When questioned about the recalls, Biti initially claimed that Tshabangu was a CCC member just like him and denied any involvement. He stated,
"No, other than him being a member of the CCC, I'm not working with him, I'm not involved in these matters, and I don't want to get involved."
When pressed further about his relationship with Tshabangu, Biti said,
Here is the leaked audio of Tendai Biti allegedly talking to a supporter about Nelson Chamisa, saying "munhu anga achapera ega."

"Of course, I'm a member of the CCC. Ah, my friend, don't ask me about things I don't know. I belong to the party led by Nelson Chamisa."
This incident is not the first time Biti has clashed with his party leadership. In 2014, he left the MDC-T to form his own People's Democratic Party (PDP). However, Biti failed to gain significant support for the PDP and lost the Harare East constituency to Terrence Mukupe in a 2015 by-election.
Despite this, Biti reentered parliament during the 2018 elections as part of the MDC Alliance led by Chamisa.
Biti's recent phone call and subsequent social media statement have stirred up the political landscape, raising questions about his true involvement in the CCC debacle and the party's future.
The unfolding drama within the CCC continues to captivate the nation's attention, and further developments are expected in the coming days.
