The news of Job Sikhala's deteriorating health in prison has caused widespread concern and outrage among Zimbabweans.
The opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) senior official has been in prison for over a year without bail or any custodial conviction, which has raised questions about the fairness and impartiality of the country's justice system.
According to reports, Sikhala is passing blood in his stool and has been complaining of a rumbling tummy. His lawyer, Harrison Nkomo, has confirmed that he urgently needs medical attention and has requested for a doctor to be brought to him as soon as possible.
Many have accused the government of using the police and judiciary to persecute Sikhala for his political activism. Despite bail being a constitutional right in Zimbabwe, it has been denied to Sikhala, who has been in Chikurubi maximum prison for 483 days.

Former cabinet Minister Jonathan Moyo also expressed his disappointment and called out the moral failure of institutions and practitioners in the administration of criminal justice. He also echoed Chinyoka's sentiments about the need to take Sikhala's case to the Constitutional Court to vindicate his right to bail.
The continued detention of Job Sikhala without bail raises serious concerns about the state of democracy and human rights in Zimbabwe. It is a violation of his fundamental rights and a clear indication of the government's disregard for the rule of law.
As Zimbabweans, we must stand in solidarity with Job Sikhala and demand that he be granted bail or be brought before a court to face trial. It is our collective duty to ensure that the rights of all citizens, regardless of their political affiliations, are protected and respected.
The health and well-being of Job Sikhala must not be compromised for political reasons, and we call on the relevant authorities to take immediate action to address this urgent matter.
