CCC MPs Fearlessly Defend Sworn-In Colleagues Amidst Ejection Attempts in Zimbabwe's Old Parliament

In Zimbabwe's Parliament building, a gripping drama is currently unfolding as legislators from the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) fearlessly resist the ejection of their sworn-in colleagues, Binga North MP Prince Dubeko Sibanda and Jasmine Toffa.

Today marked a tumultuous turn of events as the Speaker of Parliament, Jacob Mudenda, declared that these legislators, along with 13 others, were no longer part of the National Assembly and Senate following their contentious recall.

The recalls originated from former MDC-T and PDP activist, Songezo Tshabangu, who now claims to be the CCC's interim Secretary-General. The situation quickly escalated into chaos when Mudenda demanded that Sibanda either sit down or leave, but Sibanda adamantly refused to comply. Despite the Speaker's orders, Sibanda stood his ground, prompting CCC MPs to rally around him, shielding him from the sergeant-at-arms.

Efforts to eject Sibanda escalated as police were called in, yet even they failed to disperse the determined CCC MPs who were fiercely protecting their colleague.

As tensions grew and the atmosphere became increasingly polarized, riot police were summoned to effectively handle the situation characterized by political tensions, shouting, heckling, and defiant singing. Anti-riot police were seen attempting to remove CCC legislators who protested the recall of 15 MPs. However, their spirited resistance resulted in hours of impassioned singing before their eventual expulsion.

The recalls orchestrated by former MDC-T and PDP member, Sengezo Tshabangu, who allegedly collaborates with Forever Associates Zimbabwe (FAZ), an organization linked to the Central Intelligence Organisation and aimed at assisting Zanu PF in securing a two-thirds parliamentary majority, sparked unprecedented chaos within the old Parliament Building in Harare today. The repercussions of these actions reverberate throughout the political landscape, amplifying concerns over the stability and integrity of the legislative process.

Reports have also emerged of alleged violence against CCC lawmakers. Mkoba MP Amos Chibaya has stated that MPs were beaten with baton sticks by the police, resulting in numerous injuries during the skirmishes in Parliament. In response to these events, CCC members plan to convene on Wednesday, where party leader Nelson Chamisa is expected to outline the way forward amidst the turbulence.

As the drama continues to unfold, the resilience and determination of CCC legislators to defend their colleagues demonstrate the deep-rooted divisions within Zimbabwe's political landscape. The coming days are crucial as the CCC grapples with the aftermath of these events, devises strategies to restore order, and evaluates the path ahead.

The resolve shown by CCC MPs highlights the unwavering commitment to their cause, setting the stage for a potential shift in the balance of power and shaping the future of Zimbabwean politics.
