Former Criminal Investigations Department detective Jaison Muvevi is set to appear in court today as a magistrate determines whether he is mentally fit to stand trial for multiple murder charges.
Muvevi, through his lawyer, has claimed to be mentally unstable, leading Harare Magistrate Dennis Mangosi to order a mental examination.
The matter was deferred to allow Mangosi time to review psychiatric reports prepared by two different doctors. The outcome of these assessments will determine the course of Muvevi’s case.
Muvevi is facing four counts of murder after allegedly killing a quartet in Wedza, which includes a police officer.
Muvevi’s Wave Of Terror
Sometime in January this year, Muvevi unleashed a wave of terror when he allegedly committed a series of violent acts.It began with the shooting and killing of Crispen Mubvana, a prophet from the Johanne Masowe apostolic sect, at his shrine on Friday.

Afterward, he allegedly shot and killed another man at Mukamba Business Centre before attempting to flee to Mozambique.
Despite evading the police following another shootout, Muvevi was eventually apprehended in Mozambique on Monday morning.
He was caught after managing to escape from the police yet again.
Following his arrest, members of the Wedza community, particularly Apostolic Sect members, heaved a huge sigh of relief after revealing that they had abandoned their homes and had taken to sleeping in the bush out of fear of the killer ex-policeman.
