A popular vegan influencer with millions of followers reportedly has “died of starvation” after living exclusively on a diet of raw fruit.
According to friends and family, the Russian social media maven died July 21 in Malaysia where she had been seeking medical treatment after falling ill on a tour of Southeast Asia.
Across TikTok, Facebook and Instagram, she extolled the virtues of a raw food diet.

“A few months ago, in Sri Lanka, she already looked exhausted, with swollen legs oozing lymph,” one unidentified friend told news service Newsflash. “They sent her home to seek treatment.
“However, she ran away again. When I saw her in Phuket, I was horrified.”
The friend added: “I lived one floor above her and every day I feared finding her lifeless body in the morning. I convinced her to seek treatment, but she didn’t make it.”
The influencer’s mom attributed her death to a “cholera-like infection” but so far, a cause of death has not been released. However, there are suspicions her diet may have played a role.
She often boasted about her “completely raw vegan diet” and said that over the past four years, she subsisted on “fruits, sunflower seed sprouts, fruit smoothies and juices.”

Vegan Influencer 'Zhanna D'Art' Reportedly 'Died of Starvation' |
One friend said that for most of the past seven years, all Samsonova had eaten was jackfruit and durian, described as a “spiky, mace-like fruit known for its custardy meat and noxious odour.”
She remained devout to the diet, reportedly to the end — even though friends warned her about its dangers.
“You don’t need to be a doctor to understand where this will lead,” one friend said.
“Zhanna’s idle stagnation was causing her to melt before our eyes, but she believed everything was fine. Only her eyes, merry eyes, and gorgeous hair compensated for the dreadful sight of a body tortured by idiocy. Forgive me if it sounds harsh.”
A raw vegan diet has drawbacks, including causing deficiencies in calcium and Vitamin D, and suboptimal B12 levels, which can result in anemia, nervous system damage, infertility and, somewhat paradoxically, heart disease.
Samsonova’s devoted followers are scoffing at the claim her diet killed her. Instead, they’re blaming the chemicals in the food she ingested.
