Zimbabweans across the nation are once again shaking their heads in disbelief or rolling with laughter as Prof Lovemore Madhuku, leader of the National Constitutional Assembly (NCA), finished dead last after managing to secure only a paltry 5,000 votes in the recently concluded 2023 Presidential elections.
This staggering outcome has ignited a firestorm of criticism and mockery on social media platforms.
Twitter Explodes With Ridicule
Taking to Twitter on Sunday morning, Prof Madhuku wrote. 5322 voted for me in the just ended 2023 Presidential elections. They also voted for the NCA. I hereby thank them all for their support. I very much appreciate that support and will forever respect it. I am very much strengthened in the task of building a strong NCA. Thank you.
Immediately after Madhuku thanked his 5,000 voters on Twitter, Zimbabweans responded with a flood of mocking and incredulous tweets.
Popular reactions included calling on Madhuku to “have some shame” and run for councillor instead of president.
Many accused Madhuku of participating just to “sanitize” the ruling Zanu PF party’s victory.

Perennial Losing Streak Continues
Madhuku has contested multiple elections over the past decade but has never come close to winning.After each defeat, he pledges to continue building his fringe NCA party.
Incredibly, ahead of the 2018 Presidential elections, Prof Madhuku declared that it would be unfair of anyone to expect him to win the election.
This has led Zimbabweans to view him as a perennial loser. “How long does it take to build this party?” one user asked Madhuku after his latest thrashing.
Status As Laughingstock Cemented:
With his disastrous presidential bid, Madhuku has cemented his reputation as an irrelevant fringe candidate.Zimbabweans were further amused that he somehow spent a massive US$20 000 only to earn 5000 pity votes.
His minuscule vote tally compared to politicians with zero name recognition has exposed Madhuku as an eternal laughing stock.
