MABVUKU councillor and businessman, Scott Sakupwanya, has promised to install traffic lights at the dangerous turn-off in the area.
Nine people have perished, since January, at the death spot.
This led H-Metro to launch the ‘HOW MANY MORE’ campaign, also known as ‘HOMAMORE’ in short, to cast a spotlight on the dangerous turn-off.
The campaign is also meant to put pressure on the authorities, especially the City of Harare, to act and find ways of taming the beat.
Just two days into the campaign, businessman Scott, who grew up in Mabvuku, said he was also concerned about the death zone.
He said he was aware that it’s the responsibility of city fathers but they had failed the community.

“Lives have been lost, some left with permanent injuries at the Mabvuku turn-off and this is devastating,” said Scott.
“I have been losing sleep because of that turn-off, and trust me, I am going to install traffic lights there very soon.
“Very soon you will see something positive there.
“We had mayors who used the same road and witnessed accidents, but did nothing, and they didn’t even engage the community to address the issue.
“I constructed a better road from that turn-off and God’s grace will help me complete what I have started.

Traffic police now control traffic at the turn-off from 5am following a number of accidents, which usually spiked during the morning hour rush.

Pedzai Sakupwanya, popularly known as Scott Sakupwanya, is a Zimbabwean gold dealer and politician. Scott is known for flaunting his riches on social media. He gained more prominence in 2020 after photos of him posing with dozens of gold bars went viral on social media. He is known as one of the wealthiest gold dealers in Zimbabwe.At the time, there were reports that he was a runner for rich white gold dealers. Sakupwanya was appointed Affirmative Action Group (AAG) President on 28 March 2022. His appointment was, with immediate effect replacing Mike Chimombe, who was relieved of his post. Controversy
ZimLive reported in 2021 that Sakupwanya faced arrest after his Betterbrands Mining Company illegally snatched 132 gold mining blocks from Redwing Mine in Penhalonga with Redwing judicial manager Cecil Madondo. Probadek Investments had gone public with it when they approached the police and the courts, claiming they had entered into an agreement with Redwing through Madondo.At the time, Madondo was remanded in prison for fraud over the Sakupwanya deal. The Redwing agreement was for Probadek Investments to mine on the same blocks later awarded to Sakupwanya’s Betterbrands.
In April 2023, Scott Sakupwanya was named in a Gold Mafia scandal. He was named one of the country’s biggest gold barons by Uebert Angel, an ambassador-at-large, who was featured in a corruption-busting documentary by Al Jazeera. Angel called Sakupawanya a bigger gold dealer than Ewan MacMillan.
