Legendary Chimurenga music star Thomas Maofumo will not be sharing the stage with the next generation superstars Winky D and Jah Prayzah for his final performance before retiring from music.
Popularly known as Mukanya, Thomas Mapfumo recently made the announcement of his retirement from the music scene, marking the end of a remarkable yet tumultuous career that spanned over five decades.
However, it has now come to light that the 77-year-old music icon’s final performance on stage will take place this Saturday, June 24, during a self-funded concert in the United Kingdom.

Distancing himself from the gig organized by Y2K Entertainment, which is scheduled for August, the Nyoka Musango hit maker said:
“The other show you are hearing about, the one with Winky D and Jah Prayzah, I am not part of it because we failed to reach agreement with the organizers,” he explained in his vernacular, adding:
“My plans and theirs are not aligned so I am not part of that show and they are doing it with their own line-up that does not include me.”
The event, titled the “Legends Tour,” was initially planned as a symbolic passing of the musical baton from Mapfumo to the younger generation of musicians.
Artists such as Selmor Mtukudzi, among others, were scheduled to perform alongside Mapfumo, signifying the continuity and evolution of Zimbabwean music.
