Zimbabwe’s President, Emmerson Mnangagwa, has finally released the long-awaited dates for the 2023 elections, signalling a watershed moment in the country’s political scene.
Mnangagwa gave a tantalising hint during his speech in Binga last Saturday that he will reveal the highly awaited dates for this year’s harmonised elections on Monday, keeping Zimbabweans on edge with expectation.
And now comes the decisive moment. President Mnangagwa has declared that the 23rd of August 2023 will be the historic date for Zimbabwe’s national elections, igniting a wave of excitement and political fervour across the country.
In a remarkable Proclamation 4 of 2023, President Emmerson Mnangagwa has carefully outlined a comprehensive roadmap, even accounting for potential contingencies.

As per the provisions of Section 38(1)(a)(iii) of the Electoral Act, a run-off for the presidential election has been scheduled for the 2nd of October 2023 if necessary.
Zimbabwe Traditional Chiefs Council Elections Dates Announced:
Furthermore, the auspicious date of the 3rd of August 2023 has been designated for the convening of the Provincial Assemblies of Chiefs, where they will cast their votes to elect members of the Chiefs Council. This significant event aligns with the constitutional provisions outlined in Section 120(1)(b) and (c) of the Zimbabwean Constitution, in harmony with Section 38(3) of the Electoral Act Ch 2:13 and Section 35 of the Traditional Leaders Act Ch 29:17.These dates fall within the timeframe previously alluded to by Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi, who had indicated that the elections would take place between July 26 and August 26.
