Makhadzi’s Zimbabwean Producer Mr Brown Calls It Quits, Starts Up Record Label After Exploitation Allegations

Mr Brown has decided to go it alone after complaining of being exploited by his record label Open Mic Productions.

The Zimbabwean producer becomes the latest musician to go independent after Amapiano crooner Sir Trill.

Mr Brown who has produced a string of hits for popular South African songstress Makhadzi revealed that he had not got paid a dime in royalties. It had been reported that the Zimbabwean producer and his now former record label had smoked the peace pipe after he vented on social media that he was being exploited.

However, it seems that the peace was shortlived as he took to social media on Sunday to solicit for support for his new record label MBM Records. Writing on his Facebook page, Mr Brown pleaded with his followers to like his new record label’s Facebook page. He wrote:

Morning my good people .pliz help me push my campany under my name. Its u who guys that i need your support ... I really wish to get your support.

Before launching his own record label, Mr Brown had expressed dissatisfaction with his treatment at Open Mic.

“I am sick and tired of being a slave for people and at the end of the day end up being paid peanuts.” In another post he said: “The reason you are not well paid is because they wanna control you so that you will depend on them. Learn to be your own boss.”

The posts were later deleted the following day. When contacted by a publication about the posts, Mr Brown confirmed having a fallout with Open Mic but denied to go into details.

“I can confirm that there was a misunderstanding between me and Open Mic due to some other issues which we have managed to sort them out. It wasn’t something big, it was a misunderstanding between an employer and employee,” he said.

A source who also spoke to the publication confirmed that Mr Brown had a fallout with Open Mic and was prepared to walk away and start his own company.
