Former Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton has urged Marvelous Nakamba to leave the club in January unless Unai Emery gives him an indication that he will feature in his long-term plans.
Nakamba will enter the final 12 months of his Villa contract in the summer and has not made a single Premier League appearance so far this season. The Zimbabwe international has only been named amongst the substitutes eight times, despite featuring heavily under Steven Gerrard when the Liverpool legend first arrived at Villa Park.
A knee injury set Nakamba back a few months and by the time he had returned to fitness, Gerrard continued to name a midfield three of Jacob Ramsey, Douglas Luiz and John McGinn until the end of the campaign. It is unlikely that new boss Emery will give Nakamba enough game time that he needs in the second half of the season and Hutton says that the midfielder has a tough decision to make on his future next month.
When asked if the Nakamba should be looking for an exit in January, Hutton told Football Insider: "It depends what talks have gone on behind closed doors and where the manager sees him.
