Erik ten Hag wants to look forward to the future rather than dwell on the past. That was his message when asked about Cristiano Ronaldo for the first time since Manchester United terminated the Portuguese forward’s contract last month.
The 37-year-old mutually agreed to terminate his contract following a bombshell interview with Piers Morgan, in which he said he had ‘no respect’ for manager Erik ten Hag.
Manchester United took legal advice before deciding how to deal with Ronaldo after his explosive interview with Morgan on TalkTV. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner then departed Old Trafford without any financial compensation.
Speaking for the first time since Ronald’s departure, Ten Hag did not want to spend too much time discussing his former striker. He understandably wants to leave the entire Ronaldo episode in the past.
“He’s gone and it’s the past,” Ten Hag told Danny Webber for MUTV, as quoted by the Daily Mail.
“We are now looking forward and we’re looking to the future.”
