In a shocking turn of events, former SuperSport Football Club midfielder Kuda Mahachi was acquitted of two counts in a horrific child abuse case.

Mahachi hogged the headlines for the wrong reasons after his son returned to Zimbabwe from South Africa severely scalded. He then allegedly hired a Malaicha to smuggle his son back into Zimbabwe.

Mahachi’s son suffered third-degree burns and he had to be admitted at Mpilo Hospital where a part of his right foot was amputated.

South Africa’s premier soccer league side SuperSport suspended the footballer to allow him time to attend to the issue and clear his name. They did not renew his contract when it ended at the end of the 2021/22 season.

Kuda Mahachi was arraigned before a Bulawayo regional magistrate. He was charged with two separate counts of attempted murder. The former SuperSport footballer was facing two counts of attempting to kill his son.

In what Mahachi’s ex-wife’s family has described as a miscarriage of justice, the footballer was acquitted of two separate counts of attempted murder by Bulawayo regional magistrate Mr Mark Dzira.

The footballer thanked the heavens after Bulawayo regional magistrate Mr Mark Dzira acquitted him on the grounds that the State failed to prove the essential elements of the case.

The magistrate added that he reached the decision to acquit Mahachi of all charges because the evidence given by the witnesses was contradictory and disjointed. The magistrate added that it was difficult to ascertain who was lying and who was telling the truth.

The magistrate further said the medical experts could not figure out the cause of the injuries hence the dismissal of the case and acquittal of Mahachi.

It was the prosecution’s case that sometime between 25 February and 14 April 2022, Kuda Mahachi assaulted his son with an iron bar on the head and mouth. He was also alleged to have poured hot water all over his body before assaulting him with a charger cable all over the body.

After the ruling was handed down, Mahachi’s ex-mother-in-law, the mother of his Baby Mama Maritah Ndlovu cursed the footballer and the magistrate.
