St Mary’s residents are being denied access to boreholes that were commissioned last week by President Emmerson Mnangagwa because they voted for the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) at the just ended by-elections.
CCC candidate Dickson Unganai Tarusenga was the winner of the St Mary’s seat, after garnering 5,830 votes while ZANU PF‘s Nobert Jinjika claimed 4,483 ballots. Adam Pusi of the MDC Alliance got 210 votes while independent candidate Marcos Sanyanga got 55 votes.
Last Thursday, prior to ZANU PF’s final Chitungwiza rally, President Mnangagwa officially opened 18 boreholes in Chitungwiza, which has been riddled by perennial water challenges. The Government had set out to drill 20 boreholes, and only two remain.

St Mary’s Residents Denied Access To Boreholes For Voting For CCC - No ZANU PF Card No Water! |
The party has not taken St Mary’s loss lightly and residents are now allegedly being made to produce ZANU PF membership cards if they want to fetch water at the boreholes.
“A week hasn’t passed since this borehole was opened, but since our [CCC] MP won, they are now saying we can’t fetch water. The water now belongs to ZANU PF members. That is what has been happening the whole day. They now require one to produce a ZANU PF card for you to fetch the water.”
