This is according to a stunning expose by an online publication, which alleges that this is the reason why Magaya’s home was raided by the police and the military last week.

Police and other security agents last week raided three houses in Harare, including that of Prophet Walter Magaya, who had recently visited Kenya.

Following the raids, the police did not shed any detail about why they had raided the controversial prophet’s home. They insisted that the raids were not targeting specific individuals or personalities but criminal activities based on the information given to the police.

However, online investigative publication The NewsHawks has alleged that the authorities suspect that Magaya is plotting with exiled former cabinet minister Professor Jonathan Moyo to bring down President Mnangagwa.

Moyo, a rabid critic of President Mnangagwa, fled to Kenya, where he has been based in exile, following the November 2017 military intervention which toppled former President Robert Mugabe.

The publication alleges that the raid on Magaya’s home was political as the authorities were looking for evidence that the charismatic man of the cloth is colluding with Moyo.

Writing on their official social media handle, The NewsHawks said,

“Controversial Zimbabwean pastor Walter Magaya was raided at his Mount Pleasant home in Harare last week after returning from a crusade in Kenya as President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government feared he had met with exiled ex-minister Jonathan Moyo in Nairobi to plot his downfall.

“This has emerged as Mnangagwa is due to meet Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta in Nairobi on a two-day state visit tomorrow.

“Mnangagwa and Kenyatta will discuss various issues of mutual interest, mainly focusing on local, regional and international matters affecting their nations.

“The NewsHawks has been told that the raid on Magaya was political as police and other security agencies mainly wanted to find out if he had met Moyo, discussed how to bring down Mnangagwa and brought back some campaign materials. So the raid was an excuse to search him.”

The publication also managed to reach Professor Jonathan Moyo, who denied having any contact with Magaya. Said Moyo.

“I have heard there is an inter-security taskforce which is monitoring me, but I didn’t know Magaya was in Kenya; just read it in the media. The truth is that the last time I saw and spoke to Magaya was in 2015 at my daughter’s funeral service”.

Magaya, on the other hand, is yet to comment on the raid or the allegations being levelled against him of plotting Mnangagwa’s downfall with Jonathan Moyo.
