There was drama in the dead of the night as Douglas Mwonzora abandoned people he had promised to pay US$10 to attend his rally held at the Zimbabwe Grounds in Highfield, Harare yesterday.
Scores of people were left stranded at Morgan Tsvangirai House (formerly Harvest House) in Harare as they waited for the opposition party to meet its end of the bargain. Vocal government critic and journalist Hopewell Chin’ono reported that these people were promised US$10 each if they attended Mwonzora’s rally.
The “paid” supporters were bussed from all over Zimbabwe to attend the rally. The operators of the buses which were also parked at Morgan Tsvangirai House were also not paid for bussing the party’s “supporters”.
