Zimbabwean billionaire, telecoms mogul and philanthropist Strive Masiyiwa has stepped down from the board of directors of Econet Wireless Zimbabwe Limited.
Since the founding of the company, Masiyiwa had been on the board.Below is the announcement from Econet.
The Board of Directors of Econet Wireless Zimbabwe Limited would like to announce that Mr
Strive Masiyiwa has retired from the Board with effect from 1 February 2022.
Mr Masiyiwa is the founder of Econet Wireless Zimbabwe Limited and the Econet Group and has been on the Board of Econet Wireless Zimbabwe Limited since the inception of the Company in 1993 and its subsequent listing in 1998.

The Board and management takes this opportunity to express their appreciation to Mr Masiyiwa for his entrepreneurial leadership and his unwavering commitment to the company and for his philanthropy that has changed the lives of so many in Zimbabwe and across Africa.
Recently, Masiyiwa was appointed as a member of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation board.
It was also reported that Masiyiwa is on the verge of leaving Facebook.
Taking to the platform, Masiyiwa revealed that he was counting down to leaving the social media platform at the end of this month.
Mhepo Media had also reported that mobile network operator NetOne has left Zimbabweans stunned following an unprecedented hike in the price of mobile data bundles.
The cheapest One-Fi data bundle on NetOne is now going for an astronomical US$130 for only 10 GB using the government’s official bank rate.
Using the illegal black market rates, this amount goes down slightly to a still eye-popping US$80 for only 10 GB. This data is valid for one month only.
