Moyo said that there is nothing offensive in the song’s lyrics and called on Zimbabweans to support one of their own.

“Patati Patata” was released to a huge buzz on Wednesday. Barely 24 hours later, the video of the song has already garnered more than 1.4 million views on Youtube.

However, the reaction to the song was mixed. Patati Patata came in for some heavy criticism as well. Some people took exception to Koffi Olomide’s chants. In the song, the DRC musician chants “Zimbabwe, ED Mnangagwa, Number One.” The chant did not go down well with some critics of the president who felt that he was being glorified.

There Is Nothing Offensive In “Patati Patata” Song: Jonathan Moyo Defends Roki & Koffi Olomide

Ironically, Roki and Olomide found an unlikely ally in Professor Moyo. Moyo who is a rabid critic of President Mnangagwa and his government said that there is nothing offensive about the chant. But, he called the chant “dumb.” He also called on Zimbabweans to back Roki and his music.

Writing on Twitter, Moyo said,

It seems that the Prof’s position on the song did not sit well with some people. But the Prof stood his ground against all criticism.

Fine. And I disagree with you @daddyhope on this one. Olomide & Rayvany aside, I am with #Roki, a Zimbabwean artist whose artistic & livelihood interests matter. Artistic content is owned by its creators. I’ve seen no EVIDENCE that looted funds have been used to produce the song!

Theere’s no need to advance idiocy by giving idiotic examples. In a rational argument, you use logic, not analogies. We started by establishing that there is NOTHING OFFENSIVE in the lyrical content of song; therefore stop insulting people here by bringing in gukurahundi, etc!

Yes I was against @jahprayzah‘s 2015 “Mdhara Achauya” & his 2017 “Kutonga Kwaro” & no, I did not “impose” Mdhara Achauya at ZanuPF youth interface rallies; it was Kudzai Chipanga & @Hon_Kasukuwere in charge; not me. I hate both songs but I RESPECT & SUPPORT @jahprayzah big time!
