Roland Garros just lost one of the biggest stars in tennis.
Naomi Osaka has withdrawn from the French Open. After canceling press obligations as a result of mental health issues, Osaka -- one of the top-ranked women tennis players in the world -- was fined $15,000 and threatened with expulsion by tournament organizers. Ultimately, Osaka decided to take matters into her own hands and left the tournament of her own volition.
"I think now the best thing for the tournament, the other players and my well-being is that I withdraw so that everyone can get back to focusing on the tennis going on in Paris," Osaka, 23, wrote in a statement describing her struggles with depression.
