Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, and husband of Queen Elizabeth II has died. He was 99 years old.
His death was announced by Buckingham Palace, the London residence and administrative headquarters of the monarch of the United Kingdom, on Friday. In a statement the Royal Family said;
It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen has announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle. Further announcements will be made in due course.
The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss.
His death comes nearly a month after he spent weeks in the hospital and even underwent surgery for a heart condition. He would have turned 100 on June 10.
Prince Philip is survived by his wife, Queen Elizabeth II; their four children; eight grandchildren, including Prince William and Prince Harry; and nine great-grandchildren. Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth II would have celebrated their 74th wedding anniversary in November.

Prince Philip reportedly spent 65 years supporting the Queen, In his active years, he helped modernize the royal family’s image during a time of great change for Britain and the world. He also set a new course for the monarchy under a young queen, championing Britain itself.
He retired from his public duties in August 2017 and stayed largely out of the view ever since.
