MetroFM Speaks On Somizi’s Future At The Station Following Disciplinary Hearing

Somizi’s job at MetroFM was on the line following his breach in contract and lockdown protocol.

Somizi Mhlongo will not have to queue for the Unemployment Fund after his job at MetroFM was spared following his much-publicised fallout with the nation. His job was on the line after a disciplinary hearing. The charming Somizi was asked to step aside by the SABC following his breach in lockdown regulations on spreading fake news.

Somgaga had correctly “prophesied” and was spot on on the lockdown extension while on his show which he co-hosts with Dineo Ranaka. He further went on to say Fikile Mbalula had tipped him about the extension. But he later apologised to the nation and Mbalula claiming it was a bad joke. The claims had put Somizi’s job at MetroFM under fire. Somizi’s job at MetroFM was on the line following his comments

According to MetroFM insiders, Somgaga was expected to be axed. However, after a hearing, the SABC decided that Somizi should return to work tomorrow. SABC spokesperson Mmoni Seapolelo confirmed the news.

“The SABC views the matter involving Mr Mhlongp in a serious light. It is also imperative to note that this matter was referred to the law-enforcement authorities. The SABC as an employee will allow the law to take its course,” said Seapolelo.

Mhlongo had notably been absent from MetroFM since the incident. He is currently out on R1000 bail after Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula opened a case against him at Sandton Police Station.

Senior officials at MetroFM had argued that saving Somizi’s job at MetroFM had been a very difficult decision. “Mbalula made the situation more difficult for Somizi by opening a case against him. He could only be saved if Mbalula dropped the charges, which is highly unlikely because he too was protecting his integrity. Because of the way things happened, it created an impression that Mbalula leaked information to him,” said a deep throat privy to the matter.

Somizi Mhlongo’s fans also prayed that he could not get emotional and resign from his job at MetroFM. A source said that MetroFM had accepted his apology but said that it was too late as the matter was now out of the SABC’s reach and control.

However, Somizi’s job at MetroFM is safe and he has avoided the axe. His millions of fans will be thrilled by the news. “There is hope that he will survive this because, to be honest, listeners love him to bit”, said the source privy to the matter.
