Sangoma, singer and one of Mzansi’s most decorated actresses, Letoya Makhene, took pen to paper to explain why she decided to be lesbian in a detailed letter addressed to her musician father, Blondie Makhene.
She also thanked him for his unwavering support.
After her new relationship hogged headlines, former Generations: The Legacy actress, Letoya received negative comments for being in a relationship with Lebo Keswa. But the mother of four wasn’t bothered, she has found the kind of love she has always prayed for.
“Now – as we predicted – the same people are telling me once again that he’ll await me because I’ve finally found everything that I’ve ever prayed for in a lifelong partner,” she wrote in an Instagram post as she penned a letter to her father.
In the long letter on Instagram titled “Dear Daddy”, Letoya went in-depth on the struggles she faced after revealing her lesbian status to the nation. You said that some would be vicious about my newfound love. You also said that they would have YOU to deal with! You know how much I’ve dealt with in my journey through life, daddy [sic],” she wrote.
“Now I lay in the arms of a woman who honours my being, a woman who sees and appreciates me BECAUSE I AM A WOMAN. Someone I will never have to pretend to be less than because of my power makes her feel insecure. Thank you, daddy, for the blessing you gave us.”
The Ngihawukele musician also wrote that people had been vicious her newly found love, noting that she had been told numerous times to ask for forgiveness and repent. But she said she said she never anticipated that the love she prayed for would come “wrapped and packaged in the form of a woman”
Letoya’s father Blondie, said he was happy that his daughter found love and considered it a lesson to men that women could stand on their own. “Women have been there for each other through the best and worst times. This has been seen over the ages as women would run to each other when they needed sugar, help with a sick child, advice on how to keep a relationship going and when another woman struggled with orgasm, they were there for each other”.
” Letoya has been through a lot and now she found comfort in a woman, there is nothing wrong with that. We know that many men fail to give their women orgasm and just the feeling of being loved. So if they can do it themselves, why not?”, asked Blondie.
Blondie further went to blast Christians who discouraged same-sex relationships. “Lebogang and Letoya have my blessings”, the proud dad signed off.
