Kenyans Among Africans Kicked Out Of Their Houses In China Over Coronavirus

Kenyans are among Africans living in China who are being subjected to racial profiling in the wake of the novel coronavirus outbreak.

They have been denied access to the subways, the supermarkets and other crucial public spaces over the accusation of spreading the coronavirus.

A Kenyan lady only identified as Brenda who has been living in Beijing since 2017 told Citizen TV that she was denied entry into a subway based on her skin colour earlier in April.

“I had even bought a ticket, but they told me that they were not allowing foreigners into the subway, I could not argue with the locals, so I complied,” she said.

She was also kicked out of her flat and had to sleep in the cold with her belongings for two days.

Her attempts at getting help from the Kenyan embassy bore no fruits with the embassy telling her to report the matter to the police.

“The embassy was not responding to my calls and when they did, they told me to report the matter to the police,” she added.

Brenda was at the police station for over three hours with no help until she got help from a Zimbabwean national who is also living in China.

She now lives in one tiny room with three other people, hoping the nightmare in the foreign country ends soon.

Two other pregnant ladies are also dealing with the looming homelessness after they were served with eviction notices.

The notices have been handed out to landlords across China, asking them to evict people of African descent.

The latest comes amid claims that a majority of the new infections in China are imported mainly by foreigners who have travelled to China.

A majority of Africans who are now living in the streets are hoping to get help soon before the situation gets out of hand.
