South African television star Somizi Mhlongo has broken his silence following his recent scandalous lockdown extension comments.
Somgagaga, as he is affectionately known by his fans all over, grabbed headlines on Thursday after unofficially announcing that the country’s nationwide lockdown would be extended, moments before President Cyril Ramaphosa declared the extension.
In doing this, the SA Idols judge violated lockdown regulations and has since been slapped with criminal charges by Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula whom he alleged informed him of the development.
The TV star took to his official social media account on Friday afternoon and apologised for his actions, adding that he was ready to suffer the consequences of his actions.
‘Whatever legal matters or steps have been taken, I am a citizen and I’m not above the law. If I’ve gone wrong, I will respect whatever judgment or whatever verdict comes out of it.
If I didn’t do wrong, because it was not intentional, it was a very bad joke, I was not even aware it was being recorded … whatever it is I need to face, I will face it because I am not above the law.’
