The NBA Entire 2019-20 Season has been suspended after a player for the Utah Jazz preliminarily tested positive for the deadly coronavirus, the league announced Wednesday.
The news came after the NBA game between the Utah Jazz and Oklahoma City Thunder was abruptly postponed on Wednesday night.
Prior to the Thunder-Jazz game on Wednesday, Jazz reported that Gobert – who was not at the arena tested negative for influenza, strep throat and an upper respiratory infection Wednesday morning.
Jazz players Gobert and Emmanuel Mudiay were both listed as being out of Wednesday’s game due to illness, but the NBA did not confirm whether either was the player who had tested positive.

However, Jazz centre Rudy Gobert has been widely reported by several media outlets in the US to be the player who has tested positive for Covid-19.
The NBA later reported that the allegedly affected player was not in the arena and the test results were reported shortly before tip-off.
A statement from the league read:
“The NBA is suspending gameplay following the conclusion of tonight’s schedule of games until further notice….The NBA will use this hiatus to determine next steps for moving forward in regard to the coronavirus pandemic.”
They added that they are working to identify individuals who have had close enough contact with the player as to have been potentially exposed.
The coronavirus pandemic has forced many sports leagues to consider making adjustments, including cancelling events and holding games without fans. In this light, the NBA ultimately decided to cancel the remaining games until further notice.
