The English Premier League has been suspended until April 3, 2020, after some football club managers and players tested positive for the coronavirus.
The suspension also applies to the FA Cup, the English Football League (EFL) and the Women’s Soccer League (WSL).

Following a meeting of Shareholders today, it was unanimously decided to suspend the Premier League with the intention of returning on 4 April, subject to medical advice and conditions at the time.
Premier League Chief Executive Richard Masters said: “Above all, we wish Mikel Arteta and Callum Hudson-Odoi speedy recoveries, and everyone else affected by COVID-19.
“In this unprecedented situation, we are working closely with our clubs, Government, The FA and EFL and can reassure everyone the health and welfare of players, staff and supporters are our priority.”
Despite the challenges, it is the Premier League’s aim to reschedule the displaced fixtures, including those played by Academy sides, when it is safe to do so.

Late on Thursday, it was announced Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta had tested positive for the virus, and early on Friday Chelsea striker Callum Hudson-Odoi revealed he had been affected, while Everton say a first-team player has shown symptoms.
Earlier this week, several clubs – including Arsenal, Chelsea, Leicester City, Bournemouth, Manchester City, Juventus and Real Madrid – revealed they have either all or some of their playing staff in self-isolation.
The suspension is a minor setback for highflying champions-elect Liverpool FC, who would have become the first club in Premier League history to win the title before April with victories over Everton and Crystal Palace. Liverpool at only 2 wins away from lifting their Premier League title in 30 years.

The NBA has announced that all matches will be suspended from Thursday until further notice after a Utah Jazz player Rudy Gobert tested positive.
The NHL and MLS later announced the stoppage of its respective seasons, the latter for 30 days.
The MLB has delayed the start of its 2020 season by at least two weeks due to the “national emergency”.
