After spending a few weeks in the United States, where she was crowned Miss Universe 2019, Zozibini Tunzi embarks on a street parade homecoming tour.
It was a grand week for South Africans with the return of our ‘Queen’, the beautiful Zozibini Tunzi who took the Miss Universe crown for 2019. Upon her crowing in December last year, she never left the United States of America.
On 13 February the Miss Universe Joburg street parade took to the city in an open-topped bus. A lavish tour atop the red bus had Miss Universe greeting her many admirers. Alongside her was the reigning Miss South Africa Sasha-Lee Olivier.
The energy on the bus lit up the streets and Miss Universe could feel all the love.
“I have been away for such a while and I could feel the support of South Africans on social media but I have been waiting to come and feel it in person and it is not the same thing online. Feeling it in person is so much better! I always speak on how much I would like to see and today I finally saw what it means to be South African, I felt the support of the people and the love.”
After being away from home for such a long time she is excited to be back in the African sun. “I have been homesick for quite a while, you know people have been commenting on my social media saying how much I’m glowing differently now that I am home.”
South Africa will always be home for Tunzi, sneaking in a cheeky question about Chicken Licken’ as we drove past it, she said that she does indeed miss the proudly South African franchise.
“My heart is always in South Africa, it will always be here. I can travel all over the world but I know that there is no place like it. I miss everything about it.”
On her return to her hometown in Tsolo she enjoyed one of her favourite dishes, samp.
Now that she’s here she would like to see other young girls taking up space too. “Young girls need to cement themselves and take up space.
“My biggest job as Miss Universe is to create awareness and I am hoping to use my position to be my true self so that they can see the importance of being our true selves.”
Her hope is to become an example in society and continue to break the barriers to allow girls to see all of their potential.
The #ZoziComesHome tour continued in Cape Town and then it’s back to the USA and the world for our African beauty to carry out her duties.
