The Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Lesotho, Thomas Thabane (80) is said to have fled the country after being charged with murdering his ex-wife Lipolelo Thabane.
According to reports by BBC, this was revealed after Thabane pulled a no show in court to answer to the murder charges.
“He is not attending court, he has gone for a medical check-up in South Africa,” his personal secretary Thabo Thakalekoala said
He added that it was a “routine” medical check-up for the leader.
His current wife Maesaiah Thabane has already been charged with the murder.
Thabane had already announced that he would be stepping down from his position in July because of old age, without commenting about the case.
This makes him the first African leader to be charged with a domestic murder while in office.

The late Lipolelo, 58, was gunned down two days before Thabane became prime minister in 2017.
She was shot at close range on the side of a dirt road while returning to her home in a small village on the outskirts of the capital, Maseru.
She was involved in bitter divorce proceedings with Thabane who was already living with Maesaiah, 42 as if she were his wife at the time of her murder.
However, Lipolelo had already won a separate court case to be recognised as the first lady, as opposed to Maesaiah.
Two months after her death, Thabane and Maesiah got married in a lavish ceremony attended by the whole country.
At the time Thabane described the murder as senseless but now the police have connected him to the murder.
Said the police yesterday.
“The prime minister is going to be charged with the murder,” Deputy Commissioner of Police Paseka Mokete said
“The police are preparing directives and he will probably be charged on Friday,” he added
This arrest comes as a humiliation to the prime minister.
